The First Aid at Work refresher course was initially designed as a level 2 course but is now recognized as a Level 3 certification. The Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations of 1981 mandate all workplaces in the UK to have a certain number of certified First Aiders as part of their workforce. All First Aid at Work certifications issued in the UK are endorsed by CIMSPA and must adhere to the regulations laid down by the First Aid Awarding Organization Forum. Thus, all applicants looking for a competitive advantage while applying for jobs in the UK would do well to consider pursuing the First Aid at Work requalification course, if they’re looking to get their foot in the door in any UK-based industry.
The First Aid at Work requalification course is conducted for a period of one day, whereas the First Aid at Work refresher course is for people who are applying for the first time, usually conducted for a period of 3 days.
The standard FAW certificate is valid for a period of 3 years from the date of issue. The FAW requalification course needs to be pursued after the validity of the FAW certificate elapses. The FAW refresher certificate is valid for a period of 3 years as well.
The candidates require a 3- day First Aid at Work certificate in order to pursue a requalification, and there is no grace period for pursuing the same after the elapse of 3 years time after attaining the First Aid at Work 3-day certificate. Candidates also need to have Level 2 equivalent of functional skills (English) certificate, as the exam is conducted only in English. The minimum age limit for taking the course is 16 years of age, the same as the age limit for the standard First Aid at Work course.
The Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations of 1981 earlier gave such applicants a grace period, which has now been dispensed with. You might need to pursue a 2-day First Aid at Work requalification course if you want to renew your certification. In case you haven’t used your first-aid skills a lot since attaining your First Aid at Work certification, you might want to pursue a 3-day First Aid at Work certification course. You will not be awarded a certification until you complete your requalification training, and as mentioned before, there’s no grace period for the same.
