Emergency First Aid at Work training

The Emergency First Aid at Work training course is designed for people working in low-risk environments, such as small offices and other such workplaces. This course covers elementary first aid that might come in handy if a medical emergency arises and professional medical assistance isn’t available at hand. According to the Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations of 1981, all workplaces in the UK are required to have certified Emergency First Aid at Work certified first-aiders on their employee payroll.

What are the pre-requisite qualifications required for enrolling in the Emergency First Aid at Work course?

The EFAW course doesn’t specify any pre-requisite qualifications as eligibility criteria as such, but the exam is conducted in English only. Hence, anyone wishing to enroll in the EFAW course must have a firm grasp on Level 2 English, to be able to appear for the exam.

How long is an EFAW certificate valid for?

Once obtained, the EFAW certificate is valid for 3 years.

Is Emergency First Aid Work considered as a Level 3 certification?

The EFAW course was initially classified as a Level 2 qualification but is now recognized as a Level 3 qualification equivalent.

Is the EFAW course suitable for people wishing to renew their SIA licence?

Having an EFAW licence has been made mandatory for SIA licence holders since 1st April 2021 for new qualifiers and 1st October 2021 for top-up training.

Is the Emergency First Aid at Work course different from the First Aid at Work course?

Yes, the EFAW course is designed keeping in mind the medical emergency needs of small workplaces, and has a course duration of 1 day. The First Aid at Work course is designed according to the needs of larger and more hazard-prone workplaces, and is conducted for a 3-day duration.

What are the advantages of pursuing an Emergency First Aid at Work course?

Apart from always being ready to save a life if the situation so demands, the EFAW certification also boosts employability by providing you with a competitive edge when it comes to job applications. The Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations of 1981, as stated earlier, mandates that all UK employers need to have certified first-aid professionals as a part of their workforce. Hence, applicants who are otherwise qualified for the role but do not have an EFAW might face setbacks when it comes to landing their dream job.
