5 Tips to Help You Get Your Driving License

Tips to Help You Get Your Driving Licence

Getting a driving license may seem like an uphill battle at times, because of the long-drawn procedure and various steps involved. But fret not, for we’ve put together 5 tips for you to follow to help make that process a little bit easier! Here’s how you can attain your driving license in the least amount of time possible:

1. Apply for your provisional license

You must complete the required paperwork and apply for your provisional driving license before you can even consider driving. You can apply for the license when you are 15 years and 9 months, but it does not become valid until you are 16. You can then start learning to drive from the age of 17.

The official GOV UK website is the easiest way to apply for a provisional license.

To get a provisional license, you must:

  • Be able to read a number plate from 20 meters away
  • Provide a legitimate form of ID (normally a passport)
  • Provide addresses for where you have lived over the last three years
  • Pay £34 by credit or debit card

2. Find a good driving instructor and start your lessons

A good driving instructor is invaluable because an expert will have a better understanding of the test’s requirements. This insight helps you in developing your abilities over time. Remember that you may be spending up to 40 hours in a car with your instructor, so it’s crucial to find someone who makes you feel at ease and comfortable while behind the wheel.

Finding a good tutor is best done through recommendations. Once you are happy with the instructor you have, it’s time to begin your lessons.

3. Book your theory test

Before you can take your practical driving test, you need to pass your theory test. The theory test is 50 multiple-choice questions long, which are taken from the official Highway Code. The Hazard Perception test follows the multiple-choice part, and it requires you to click whenever you notice a hazard occurring.

You can book your theory test either:

  • Or over the telephone using a credit or debit card on the number 0300 200 1122
  • It costs £23
  • You’ll have to visit your local theory test center to take your theory test
