UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) requires non-EEA nationals to pass a Secure English Language Test (SELT) in speaking and listening at level B1 after five years residency in the UK, in order to qualify for indefinite leave to remain in UK. Bright Learning Centre is a Trinity SELT approved training service provider. We offer B1 Test Preparation in Leicester which is classroom-based. All our students have passed their B1 test in their first attempt after attending the training classes at our Centre. We have 100% success rate for this exam.

Course overview

The B1 SELT test is GESE grade 5 test offered by Trinity college London. The B1 exam is English speaking, listening as well as an understanding test. The B1 test is a requirement by the Home Office for anyone who is looking to apply for indefinite leave to remain in the UK or naturalisation to get British nationality. This test is offered by Trinity College London. You will need to familiarize yourself with the SELT exam structure and criteria to prepare for the actual test. We at Bright Learning will provide you with training materials together with detailed guidance on how to pass the exam in your first attempt. The test is as conducted as follows:

  • It is 10-minute speaking and listening test
  • This test is conducted on screen with an examiner
  • Provisional results are provided a day after you take the exam

You will be assessed against the communication skills, language requirements, language functions, grammar, Lexis and Phonology at B1 Level. The actual test is divided in two parts as follows:

  • Topic: You choose a topic to prepare in advance of the test, for discussion with the examiner. You must complete a Topic Form in advance and bring it with you to the exam.
  • Conversation: You will have to prepare 6 conversational topics and you will have a short conversation with the examiner about two subject areas chosen by the examiner.

Classroom-Based Learning:

We deliver this course in classroom based environment only. It is 6 days course including first Aid qualification. Learners must attend all 6 days to gain this qualifcation. 

Assessment:

You will be assessed on each course units seperately. Each unit will be assessed by a Multiple choice exam. For each question, you will have to choose the correct answer from 4 options provided to you.

  • This unit 4 is also assessed by practical observations while demonstrating physical Intervention Skills. 

All of the assessments will be conducted within the course duration. You will also writing evidential statement and completing the search scenario.

Following are the requirements you will need to meet to start the preparation for B1 SELT test:  

  • Original valid Passport
  • Biometric Residence card
  • Language requirement – able to speak and understand English language up to A2 Level

What certificate am I going to receive?

Once you successfully complete and pass B1 test, you will receive provisional results on the same day and you will normally receive your certificate within 7 days of the test date. You will receive B1 test completion certificate by Trinity College London which will meet the Home Office English language requirements to apply for Indefinite leave to remain the UK or to apply for naturalisation, British Passport.

Learners who will successfully complete Level 2 Award in working as Door Supervisor are eligible to work as Security guard or Door Supervisor. You will be able to work in Private Security Industry such as bars, pubs, clubs and other licenced premises at public events. The average salary for door supervisor is £17000 – £22000 per annum.

Secure English Language Tests (SELTs) assess English Language ability and help you prepare for the SELT A1, A2, or B1 exam needed for your Home Office application in the UK. Trinity SELT is approved by UKVI as a part of the Home Office, for Indefinite Leave to Remain, British Citizenship (Naturalisation), and UK visa where evidence of English language ability is a requirement.

The course content will vary depending on the needs of the learners. You will prepare and practice language functions, grammar, lexis, and phonology. The B1 test booking fee costs £215 per attempt. Make sure that you are prepared enough before taking the B1 test, so that you pass the exam first time.

The required English language test for British citizenship is the B1 standard test of the CEFR. This test must be on the Home Office approved Secure English language test list and is required for British naturalisation applications. For taking B1 English Test, you will be able to speak and understand the English language up to A2 Level.
