The B1 ISE test is offered by Trinity college London. The B1 ISE is a 4 skill test covering English Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing. The test is a requirement by the Home Office for a number of UK visa applications. This test is offered by Trinity College London. You will need to familiarize yourself with the exam structure and criteria to prepare for the actual test.

The test is as conducted as follows:

  • It is 4 skills test covering Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing
  • Reading and Writing test consists of 4 tasks and is two hours long.
  • Speaking and Listening test consists of 3 tasks and is 18 minutes long.
 

You will be assessed against the communication skills, language requirements, language functions, grammar, Lexis and Phonology at B1 ISE Level.

Study Method:

At Bright Learning centre, this course is delivered by our qualified and experienced tutors. We deliver this course to meet individual’s needs, therefore you can complete this course by the following method:

Classroom-Based Learning:

We deliver this course in classroom based environment only. It is 6 days course including first Aid qualification. Learners must attend all 6 days to gain this qualifcation. 

Assessment:

You will be assessed on each course units seperately. Each unit will be assessed by a Multiple choice exam. For each question, you will have to choose the correct answer from 4 options provided to you.

  • This unit 4 is also assessed by practical observations while demonstrating physical Intervention Skills. 

All of the assessments will be conducted within the course duration. You will also writing evidential statement and completing the search scenario.

We understand that exams can be daunting or nervous for many candidates. Many candidates on the course have not sat an examination in a long time. The trainer on the course will equip you with all the knowledge needed to pass.

Course content

Our tutors at Bright Learning will prepare our learners to meet Home Office English Language requirement to be able to apply or switch their visa. We offer the training sessions for B1 ISE all over the UK.

  1. Long reading task: the candidate reads a single text and answers 15 questions. Topics usually covered are, travel, money, transport or music.
  2. Multi-text reading task: the candidate reads four texts and answers 15 questions. Topics covered may include fashion, festivals, special occasions or personal experiences.
  3. Reading into writing task: the candidate produces a piece of writing based on the four selected topics in task two.
  4. Extended writing task: the candidate produces a piece of writing in response to a prompt. Topics that could be covered are rules and regulations, health and fitness, entertainment or travel. 

1. Topic (4 minutes long) 

  • You will choose a topic to prepare before the test, for discussion with the examiner. 
  • You must complete a Topic Form in advance and bring it with you to the exam. 
  • Here is an example of a completed Topic Form

2. Conversation (2 minutes long)

  • You will have a short conversation with the examiner about one subject area chosen by the examiner.

3. Independent listening (10 minutes)

  • Candidates will listen to two different recordings and answer questions related to each recording.
  • After the first recording, the examiner will ask the candidate six questions.
  • After the second recording, the candidate will state six facts orally to the examiner, and then the examiner will ask four follow-up questions about the content of the recording.
  • In both tasks, the candidate listens to the audio recording twice.

The actual test is taken by Home Office approved provider such as Trinity college London in different locations around the UK. The test fee is £ 150 which is payable to Trinity College London. The test is graded as either pass or fail.

Entry Requirements:

Following are the requirements you will need to meet to start the preparation for B1 SELT test:  

  • Original valid Passport
  • Biometric Residence card
  • Language requirement – able to speak and understand English language up to A2 Level

What certificate am I going to receive?

Once you successfully complete and pass B1 test, you will receive provisional results on the same day and you will normally receive your certificate within 7 days of the test date. You will receive B1 test completion certificate by Trinity College London which will meet the Home Office English language requirements to apply for Indefinite leave to remain the UK or to apply for naturalisation, British Passport.

Learners who will successfully complete Level 2 Award in working as Door Supervisor are eligible to work as Security guard or Door Supervisor. You will be able to work in Private Security Industry such as bars, pubs, clubs and other licenced premises at public events. The average salary for door supervisor is £17000 – £22000 per annum.

This test is conducted in person with an examiner. It consists Reading and Writing tasks and 18 minutes speaking and Listening Task.

B1 test results are valid for 2 years from the date the test is awarded.

The B1 test booking fee costs £150 per attempt. Make sure that you are prepared enough before taking the B1-ISE test, so that you pass the exam first time.

You will receive your results within 21 days of taking your exam, you will be emailed your final result and your Diagnostic Report.
