The NVQ Level 3 Award in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools qualification has been designed for individuals who want to work in schools, particularly in role of Teaching assistant. Achieving this Award will provide sufficient evidence that the learner has acquired the necessary skills and knowledge to support the Teacher and the delivery of curriculum within a school, as well as developing skills to help children and young people to develop self-esteem, independence and skills for learning. It seeks to further develop professional and technical skills and knowledge, and an understanding of the importance of positive relationships within a school.

What you will learn:

The Level 3 Award in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools qualification will give you an understanding into the roles, responsibilities of those involved in supporting teaching and learning in schools, and provide an opportunity to develop the skills and knowledge required to do this effectively. The learners are required to complete 4 mandatory units:

  • Unit 1: Schools and Colleges as Organisations
  • Unit 2: Support Health and Safety in a Learning Environment
  • Unit 3: Understand how to Safeguard Children and Young People
  • Unit 4: Understand How Children and Young People Develop

Course Delivery:

This course is delivered by distance learning at your own pace with an Assessor/Tutor's Support & Guidance. You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. The course is delivered online through our e-portfolio system. You will be given access to learning material and learning outcomes which will guide you on what you need to do for each unit.

Entry Requirement:

Learners must be 16 + to register on to this qualification. However, there is no formal requirement for this course as long as the candidate has basic functional skills (Numeracy, Literacy and ICT). You will also have to provide us with your Photo Identification such as Passport or Full UK driving Licence and Proof of Address of last 3 months.

How long is the course?

Learners can enrol on to the course any time and will be given 12 months to complete the course. However, the course is based on self study so the learner can complete the course as quickly as they prefer.


There is no formal examination for this course, however learners are required to submit the portfolio. The course is assessed by your portfolio which demonstrates Learner's knowledge against each of the assessment criteria of the course. Note: to achieve this qualification learners are not required to be working in Schools or find any placement in schools.

What Certification am I going to receive?

Once you successfully complete the qualification you will be awarded a NVQ Level 3 Award in Supporting Teaching and Learning in schools’ certificate.
