In order to obtain an SIA license and work as Door Supervisor within the Private Security Industry you will need to show that you have been trained to the right level, and you have the relevant qualifications. To get a door supervision license you will need to attend a Door Supervisor Training Course and pass the exams. The course will be delivered within 6 consecutive days. At the end of the course, there will be 4 multiple questions exams and a practical assessment.
From the 1st of April, this course has been changed from a 4-day course to a 6-day course. In addition to this, you must also have a first aid qualification before you can take the training. This should be an Emergency First Aid at work certificate or higher.

This course is suitable for new entrants or other security personnel who would like to widen their skills and be eligible to apply for a SIA Licence to work as a door supervisor within the Private Security Industry. Once you have gained this qualification you would be able to work as a Door Supervisor within the UK and your employment chances will increase. We deliver this course in a classroom-based environment only. It is 6 days course including First Aid qualification. Learners must attend all 6 days to gain this qualification.
You will be assessed on each course units separately. Each unit will be assessed by a multiple-choice exam. For each question, you will have to choose the correct answer from the 4 options provided to you.
All the assessments will be conducted within the course duration. You will also writing evidential statement and completing the search scenario.
We understand that exams can be daunting or nervous for many candidates. Many candidates on the course have not sat an examination in a long time, however the trainer on the course will equip you with all the knowledge needed to pass.
The SIA Door Supervisor course runs over four days and is divided into four modules:
You must have a first aid qualification before you can take the training. This should be an Emergency First Aid at work certificate or higher. You must also have English language skills in reading, writing, speaking and listening equivalent to the Level 1 functional skills in Literacy. You will also have to provide your Photo Identification such as Passport and Full UK driving Licence, Passport size photograph and Proof of Address (no more than 3 months old). There will be some pre-learning needs to be completed before you start the course.
Successful candidates will receive a Level 2 Award in Door Supervision certificate from an awarding body within England and Wales who are currently recognised by Ofqual and Department for Education and Skills.

Learners who will successfully complete Level 2 Award in working as Door Supervisor are eligible to work as a Security Guard or Door Supervisor. You will be able to work in Private Security Industry such as bars, pubs, clubs and other licenced premises at public events. The average salary for a door supervisor is £17000 – £22000 per annum.
To get a front-line licence, you will need to do the Level 2 Award for Working as a Door Supervisor within the Private Security Industry. To obtain this qualification, you will need to complete 4 training modules and pass the exams. As per the latest SIA Update, Door supervision training must be delivered over a minimum of 6 days. In addition to this, you must also have a first aid qualification before you can take the training.
No, the licence fee is not included in the price of the course. The payment for the SIA licence is £190.00 which is payable to the SIA (Security Industry Authority). This payment can be done online on their website or at the Post Office.

Door Supervisor exam results are usually available within 10-14 working days and you will be notified by email and SMS when your results are available.
You will receive Door Supervisor certificates within 7 working days of course completion and passing the examination. Once you gain this qualification, it is then valid for three years.
Yes, with a Door Supervisor licence you can work as a security guard. However, it is important to note that with the Security Guard course, you cannot apply for a Door Supervisor badge. Hence, Door Supervisor course is more valuable when applying for jobs and will make you more eligible.

There is no fixed time frame for getting your SIA licence but generally, it can take up to 25 working days. In rare cases, if the issues come up with identity checks or criminal records, it could take up to 6 weeks or even more.
The SIA security licence cost is £190, including the cost of processing your application, and is not refundable. The licence is valid for three years.
