How has online tutoring helped students across the globe during and after Covid

The surge in online learning modes during Covid has made a massive difference to the way taught courses are now conducted across universities and schools alike. Online tutoring has helped millions of students stay abreast of their courses during very trying times and created a new employment avenue for people who lost their livelihood during Covid. While Covid dragged all of us, the world over, through good, bad and ugly times, the surge of online tutoring can be considered the silver lining to this extremely massive and unforgettable thundercloud. In this article, we present our views on how Online tutoring has changed the education landscape.

Online education and its benefits to students and teachers

While the initial few weeks of online learning was met with massive upheaval bordering on mass hysteria due to the confusion among students and parents alike, online learning has now emerged as a very viable mode of education through which students are now able to access learning resources, regardless of location barriers.

The emergence of online education has also significantly reduced the costs of learning new skills in general, due to the presence of veritable goldmines of information free of cost. This provides extremely tough competition to the already established modes of learning, and thus makes good quality education accessible to all social groups.

Teachers, although initially reluctant to embrace online teaching tools, have now warmed up to the idea. Says Dr. Ahmed, whose preferred online teaching tool is Lark, “It has changed the way of teaching. It enables me to reach out to my students more efficiently and effectively through chat groups, video meetings, voting and also document sharing, especially during this pandemic. My students also find it is easier to communicate on Lark. I will stick to Lark even after coronavirus, I believe traditional offline learning and e-learning can go hand in hand.”

Online education and expansion in employment opportunities

While Covid saw a massive decline in the number of employment opportunities available to the masses, many turned to online education as a source of income during those very uncertain times.

Online tutoring emerged as the preferred choice for people who either got laid off from normal employment or had to shut down business operations due to frequent lockdowns.
