The Level 3 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools qualification has been designed for individuals who want to work in schools, particularly in the role of a Teaching assistant or already working in supporting role in Schools. Achieving this certificate will provide sufficient evidence that the learner has acquired the necessary skills and knowledge to support the Teacher and the delivery of curriculum within a school, as well as developing skills to help children and young people to develop self-esteem, independence and skills for learning. It seeks to further develop professional and technical skills and knowledge, and an understanding of the importance of positive relationships within a school.

What will I learn:

The Level 3 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools qualification will give you an understanding into the roles, responsibilities of those involved in supporting teaching and learning in schools, and provide an opportunity to develop the skills and knowledge required to do this effectively. The learners are required to complete 11 mandatory units:

  • Unit 1: Understand Child and Young Person Development.
  • Unit 2: Understand How to Safeguard the Wellbeing of Children and Young People.
  • Unit 3: Support Children and Young People's Health and Safety.
  • Unit 4: Engage in personal development in young people's settings.
  • Unit 5: Support learning activities.
  • Unit 6: Promote children and young people's positive behaviour.
  • Unit 7: Develop professional relationships with children, young people and adults.
  • Unit 8: Promote equality, diversity and inclusion in work with children and young people.
  • Unit 9: Support assessment for learning.
  • Unit 10: Communication and professional relationships with children, young people and adults.
  • Unit 11: Schools as organisations.

Course Delivery:

This course is delivered by distance learning at your own pace with a Assessor/Tutor's Support & Guidance. You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. The course is delivered online through our e-portfolio system. You will be given access to learning material and learning outcomes which will guide you on what you need to do for each unit.

Entry Requirement:

Learners must be 16 + to register on to this qualification. However, there is no formal requirement for this course as long as the candidate has basic functional skills (Numeracy, Literacy and ICT). You will also have to provide us with your Photo Identification such as Passport or Full UK driving Licence and Proof of Address of last 3 months.

How long is the course?

Learners can enrol on to the course at any time and will be given 12 months to complete the course. However, the course is based on self study so the learner can complete the course as quickly as they prefer.

Assessment:

There is no formal examination for this course, however learners are required to submit the portfolio. The course is assessed by your portfolio which demonstrates Learner's knowledge against each of the assessment criteria of the course. Some portfolio evidence will need to be witnessed by a competent person in the workplace hence students must be employed/volunteered in a schools or arrange and complete a work experience placement.

What Certification am I going to receive?

Once you successfully complete the qualification you will be awarded a NVQ Level 3 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in schools’ certificate.

The Level 3 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools qualification allows learners to work in schools as fully qualified teaching assistants. This also provides learners with the opportunity to progress to the Level 3 Diploma in Specialist Support for Teaching and Learning in Schools and into the workforce.
